Matt and Kim - 5K

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daeVjbYjeB8

Matt and Kim are originally from Brooklyn, New York.  Their sound is unlike anyone else's, and with every single song they get you dancing in your seat (or where you're standing, you pick).  Their most popular song is Daylight which has been heard in various commercials and TV shows.  This particular song is about Kim running cross country.  She was offered a running scholarship to college, but has elected to pursue music.  Lucky for us!

The Moon and Her Mother - Strong City

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNfAJqKaSh0

The Moon and Her Mother is a band out of Chicago who released their first album in February of 2010.  They have been awarded "Indie Band of the Week" and although not widely known are definitely worth your time.  Their lyrics make you think, and their change of pace throughout this song keeps you on your toes.  We hope this behind the scenes favourite becomes one of your up front favourites.

Trading Yesterday – She Is The Sunlight
This band was created by David Hodges of the former Evanescence.  Although his name might be unfamiliar, his music is not.  David Hodges has written and produced hits for other artists including Kelly Clarkson (“Because of You”), Daughtry (“What About Now”) and David Auchuleta (“Crush”). The group Trading Yesterday signed with Epic Records in 2005 and released their debut single “One Day”.  The band then left the contract, remaining independent since, and the album was shelved in 2006, never to be released.  They have since released an independent record The Beauty & the Tragedy, where which this track can be found.  “She Is The Sunlight” is one of the most beautiful love songs we’ve ever heard.

Andrew Belle – Oh My Stars
Andrew Belle has been named “The Best Breakout Artist, Chicago” by MTV and they weren’t kidding.  In 2010, he released his first full length album, The Ladder, and he has never looked back since. His music has been compared to that of Coldplay, John Mayer, and The Fray.  If you want to hear a refreshing new voice whose lyrics are contemplative yet catchy, then Andrew Belle is for you.

MoZella – Light Years Away
MoZella began pursuing her music career immediately after high school.  As she was still trying to make a name for herself, she decorated cakes by day and played in coffee shops by night.  Her big break came in 2004 when she was signed onto Madonna’s Maverick Records.  She has toured with some very well known artists and her charisma and talent never disappoint her audience.  We hope you like MoZella just as much as we do.

Safetysuit – Find A Way
Safetysuit, a band originally from Tusca, Oklahoma, are most notably known for their singles “Someone Like You” and “Stay” which are both off their album Life Left to Go. The simple track we are sharing today highlights complimentary guitar lines and subtle vocal harmonies. So we hope YOU find a way to allow this track to nestle itself onto your favourite playlist.

Dear You.
Today we share a favourite.  This is a favourite from a group who found us! We listened and decided that their unique sound was just what we like.  If you think your band could be a favourite, email us at songs.from.you.to.us@gmail.com! We’d be delighted to listen.
The Miners Club – Pirates Of The Battered Sea
(we got to this track before it hit Youtube, so you’ll have to find it at http://www.reverbnation.com/artist/song_details/1525246)
This five-man group from Reading, UK is a complimentary collaboration of the bands: Amundsen’s Flag and Nexus Bloom.  The flavour The Miners Club brings to their music is an asset almost as attractive as their raw talent. Check them out (their music is available on iTunes) and let us know what YOU think?

Santigold – Lights Out
Although we don’t typically post songs with such high play counts, we just couldn’t resist.  This lovely little number caught our attention within the first few seconds and held it right to the end.  This album means a lot to the artist as she produced it to “help break down the boundaries and genre classification” and prove that she was not just a “black woman singing R&B”.  We stand behind her.

Foals - Spanish Sahara
This band was an accidental find for us, but it is a song that comes with the highest recommendation.  This song has been around since 2008 as it was debuted on their album Antidotes (which reached 3rd on the UK charts).  This particular track, although it may be lengthy, is one that will leave you speechless.  The vocals, at times, remind us of the slurred, masked sound of Bon Iver.  The song builds gradually throughout the piece, gaining speed and strength, and finally climaxing near the end. Amazing.

Little Comets, a band built in Newcastle have a special sound, mixing our favourite parts of what we've heard before.  Their most recent album was just released on January 31 of this year in the UK, and is something you will definitely want to check out!

Laura Izibor - If Tonight is My Last

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uAxD9RMPIY

The true vocal and piano talent of Laura Izibor is visible in this song.  You immediately hear the passion in her voice, in an almost Alicia Keys way.  Born in Ireland, Laura has come to be known there as "the soul of Ireland" and definitely steps into her title as can be heard in any of her songs.  She's graced the music scene of One Tree Hill with her songs, and we're hoping, maybe today she can grace your playlist.

Matthew And The Atlas - Within The Rose
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFf4Dk3Hi_w

Matthew and the Atlas, who recently finished a UK tour with Mumford and Sons, have big plans for the future.  The vocal lead of Matthew Hegarty (bottom left) accompanied by a banjo and sweet harmonies will have you feeling closer to the summer than ever before.  We hope this day-dreamy piece becomes one of your favourites too.

Joe Purdy - Suitcase
Joe Purdy can make his lyrics come alive, even if they surround something as trivial (yet symbolic) as a “suitcase”.  His velvety sound can sometimes be compared to John Mayer.  His is an independent musician, his records (ten in the past eight years) are self released and he “likes it that way”.  So we hope you like it his way and give this artist a listen.

Nada Surf – If You Leave
Sometimes we wonder if every artist is greatly hurt by a break up.  It seems as though each male vocalist has a lost love to sing about, pulling on the heartstrings of the adoring single ladies who listen. But this song brings a different light to a situation littered with broken hearts and teary eyes.   This band has been together for more than ten years and together they have had a fiery career, writing songs before having finished the ones they had begun.  Although this is one of their more mello songs, their complete discography drips with talent.

The Paper Kites - Bloom
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8inJtTG_DuU

This piece is one of our all time favourites.  Not only is this happy song deserving of a high play count, its adorable music video also merits a high view count.  This five piece band, featuring multiple guitars, banjos and ukuleles, is one that you won’t feel guilty about having on repeat.  Let the melodic tune of this unsigned Aussie band find its way into your heart.

Benjamin Francis Leftwich – Atlas Hands
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pyue2N1XZ0M&feature=related

Benjamin Francis Leftwich is a young singer/songwriter from York, with melancholic lyrics and an elegant music video. He just released a new EP on March 6th featuring the track “Pictures”. This EP was produced by Ian Grimble of Mumford and Sons, so it’s been overseen by one of this year’s most influential artists. We hope this floaty number finds its way to your favourite playlist.

The Chord and the Fawn – You Like Me and I Like You

This happy go lucky band is comprised of 8 people, and includes the sounds of various instruments such as ukuleles and trombones.  Their second full length album is currently being produced, and if it’s anything like their previous music it will definitely be worth looking into! This band’s music has been featured on popular TV shows including Jersey shore.  Hopefully this gets your music day off to a happy start!

Iglu & Hartly - In This City
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUF-IlF1UW0

This band is big change of pace from William Fitzsimmons, but their upbeat and optimistic sound makes another great iTunes addition.  The band has achieved great success in the UK and the United States, as they are an unsigned group from California.  While this song debuted in 2008, it is still Steven Levitt's (yes, the famous economist) favourite song.

William Fitzsimmons featuring Julia Stone - Let You Break
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyHCmK40vLk&feature=fvst

The beautiful harmonies of Pennsylvania-born William Fitzsimmons and Julia Stone, from the brother-sister duo Angus and Julia Stone, truly make this song a gem. William Fitzsimmons, the youngest child of two blind parents, is currently on tour in North America.  We hope this track, taken from his newest album, will find it's way onto your iTunes shortly.
